Caught By The Tides @ IFC, 6:45 5/9
I’m seeing Caught By the Tides at the IFC tomorrow (Wednesday) 5/9 at 6:45pm! The movie should finish by 9:45. IFC doesn’t have assigned seating so if you want to join just let me know!
Caught By the Tides is a film in Mandarin woven together from footage shot over 23 years. It follows a person’s longing as they search for a long-lost lover in an increasingly unrecognizable country. Described as “carefully crafted to break your heart” and “simply stunning” by Rolling Stone, I think it’ll really scratch an itch for me.
I also can’t remember the last time I saw a film in Mandarin! I’m wondering if my three semester of Mandarin in undergrad will be useful at all! :)
Last week I saw April. It was intense to the point of making me feel uncomfortable at times, but I think that’s probably to be expected when the subject of the film is reproductive healthcare in a very religious community. I thought it was very powerful, one of many movies I’ve seen recently that really shook me.
