8 1/2 @ Film Forum, 7:40 5/20
This week I’m seeing Fellini’s 8 1/2 at the Film Forum! I’ll be going to the 7:40 showing on Tuesday, which should finish around 10. Let me know if you’d like to join and I can get you a discounted ticket!
I enjoy Fellini so I don’t feel a need to know anything much about this film to see it, which means there isn’t anything I can pass on to you my dear readers. I’m going in blind!
One thing I DO know, however, is that this screening is a fresh 35mm print, a very rare opportunity to see some of Fellini’s incredible imagery in that medium. I’ve seen a few fresh 35mm prints before, including Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, and I am very excited for this screening as a result.
Going to keep the review brief. Last week’s Caught By the Tides was very cool but also somewhat disappointing. It turns out ‘filmed over 20 years’ means filmed a bit 20 years ago and filmed a bit a few years ago, without anything in between. Still, I found it beautiful and very touching at times. I also don’t know anything about population displacement due to the Three Gorges Damn project in China, which was touched upon. A wild thing!
