An Introduction to VisiData: Cheat sheets, pipx, and VisiData 2.0 preview

Sometime not so long ago, you signed up to receive updates about An Introduction to VisiData. This is the third installment.

Since January (the most recent edition of this irregular newsletter), the tutorial itself has undergone only minor changes. Last week, however, I added pointers to two new resources:

  • A printable, one-page cheat sheet. I wrote the English version and, thanks to the assistance of Associazione onData and Data Crítica, we now have translations in Italian and in Spanish. I welcome your suggestions, critiques, and additional-language proposals. (It’s very easy to add new translations.)
  • A short guide to installing VisiData via pipx. I’ve found pipx to be a great tool for isolating Python applications in their own environments, with minimal fuss. You might, too.

Last but very-much not least: This weekend, Saul and Anja published a preview of VisiData 2.0. It has support for undo/redo, simpler sheet-hopping, multi-line rows, and lots more. They’ve kindly requested help testing the pre-release, which is available to everyone via pip.

Cheers,
Jeremy
