Hello everyone!
We’ve now officially launched interalia — a new fiscal host, registered as a non-profit (gGmbH) in Germany.
For the last couple of months we’ve been working behind the scenes on our strategy, and we're so proud to share the results with you today. Our new website shows who we are, and what we offer.
What's a fiscal host? In short, we're here to lighten the load of dealing with all things admin and finances. We provide operational support — especially for people working at the intersection of tech and social justice.
We started down this path about a year ago, when a number of fiscal hosts in the digital rights space were struggling, and groups needed new operational homes. Since then, threats to civil society have only multiplied. We aim to be a reliable, creative and accountable fiscal host that does what it says it will.
We see fiscal hosting as part of a solution to other, intertwined issues within philanthropy and civil society. In Germany, the concept of fiscal hosting is less established than in other parts of the world, but no less important.
Today, we're sharing two key reports that underpin our strategy.
* Fiscal Hosting in the Internet Freedom Space * by our co-founder Zara Rahman tracks fiscal hosting in the digital rights and internet freedom space worldwide. She explores key needs and how hosts can support the civil society ecosystem — for example by making it possible to do human rights work under the radar and absorbing risk.
A Delicate Dance: Exploring Fiscal Sponsorship by Rayya El Zein explores the idea of feminist fiscal hosting. In her analysis based on interviews, academic literature, and a breakdown of common business models, she suggests how fiscal hosts can structure their work with solidarity, care, and equity at the core.
