Tonight at 5:45: Board meeting
Hi everyone,
Tonight is the next board meeting. A reminder of the details and an important update from this week.
Tonight
Thursday, May 28
5:30 PM for public comment sign-in (closes at 5:45 sharp)
5:45 PM meeting begins
BISD Board Room, 9530 NE High School Road
If you plan to comment by Zoom, you must sign up by 4 PM today by emailing Lani Chaffee at lchaffee@bisd303.org.
If technology-related public comment is deferred to a later point in the agenda as has happened at the last two meetings, please plan to stay through if you can. Prior to the meeting, I will again ask that public comment not be moved.
A note on tonight's Strategic Plan vote
One quick note. Tonight's vote is the Strategic Plan, not classroom technology. We are not expecting a decision on our asks tonight. We will be there because the board needs to keep seeing this community show up. There is an Ordway event that conflicts with the board meeting, so we really need non-Ordway folk to turn up.
What happened this week
Yesterday, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, gave a major speech introducing the AFT's new 10-point plan for technology in schools. The first point on the list is no screens for students in prekindergarten through second grade, with an exception for assistive purposes. This is the same ask we have made for BISD's K-2 classrooms.

Why tonight matters
Setting direction on classroom technology is the board's responsibility. Showing up tonight is how this community makes clear it expects that responsibility to be met. The board needs to see that we are still here, and still expecting action.
If you can come, please do. If you can give public comment, please do.
Thank you for your support.
