Intentional Society: The sweet smell of tension
Is this the right time to journey together? RSVP for the orientation call Saturday October 30th, 1:00-1:55pm Pacific Daylight Time (4pm Eastern, 8pm UTC)
We remain in exploration of polarities - this week moving from the individual to the collective. I'm not sure what kind of definitions and mappings will emerge from our group work. What I do know, in an embodied and coherent way, is that tension can be my friend, and yours too if you embrace it.
Tension can be sensed, named, brought out, worked with, and does not require discomfort in order to serve us. We often feel discomfort when we feel identified with or attached to one or more parts that are engaged in the tension. De-fusion breaks the false equality - if your identity isn't at stake, then you don't have to participate in the inside experience of the tension.
Befriending tension inverts our response from flight to attraction. There's something delicious waiting for us if we follow the sweet smell of tension towards the transformation that tension calls forth. The energy in the tension wants to shift, bend, pull, move towards greater harmonization.
Not that harmony is static, solved, still. It is the tension itself that is stuck, and freeing that energy produces a flowing, whirling, dancing loop of relationship. A tension in motion is alive and vibrant - a generator throwing off sparks, radiating outward from what was previously knotted in on itself.
A tension may be "out there" somewhere, but the experience is in you. How you approach that experience is how you approach yourself. Enemy, or friend? The same will meet you in response. Best wishes in befriending, friends.
Cheers,
James
