:: message. My eyes are killing me. Not just because of the work, but also because I’m just coming back from the optometrist, and I’ve got those drops in…and I’m just dilated.

How have you all been? Please, pull up a chair. Tell me what you’ve been up to. I’ll go first. I’m nearing the end of this month where I’ve been doing a lot of work (as always) and studying a bunch (also as always), and thinking about how this is almost the exact opposite of my life from about a decade ago. I imagine this is my comeuppance for having been a lazy slob.

But there are some bright points! The first is my new book with Jim Munroe: Zeroed Out.

When the aliens took over the planet, they made everything better ••• so why is Matias’ life only getting worse? Sure, the offworlders may have gentrified Earth, but they also ended the pandemics and climate change ... oh, and cured cancer. Despite this, Matias finds it a struggle to adapt to the changes. Might have something to do with them causing him to be dumped and fired in the same week. Now he’s a glorified data shredder, and his Cro-Magnon, shapeshifting boss wants them to work weekends on a “special project” together. Which sounds terrible, until Matias discovers a side to his boss he never imagined ... A graphic novel about galactic supply chains and sexy shapeshifters from Jim Munroe (Therefore Repent!, IDW) and Eric Kim (Love as a Foreign Language, Oni Press).

Coming out May 27th, 2025. How neat is that? My first comic in a while, out from the lovable folks over at At Bay Press.

:: film. This month actually sees me at the end of my second year of film studies and entering my third, so this is pretty exciting. The past year has been giving me some insighys on how to approach film, and how history and socio-political strains reverberate through the work. I was also pretty happy being introduced to things like Italian Neorealism (Bicycle Thieves (1948), Rome, Open City (1944)), Varda’s Cleo from 5 to 7, and a whole string of other films. They’re shaping something in me, for sure…

What I’m really excited for though is to study anime during the summer. I think from May to June I’ll just be going through stuff, so you can keep up with my bluesky page and see what I’m watching or have on in the background.

:: Tariffs. Man. Money, amirite?

:: drawing board.

A bunch of doodles
…followed by another bunch

These were requests that I got because I felt like I was being too maudlin on my bluesky account. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be lighthearted all the time, but I do think that I can try and help out a little and not just heap misery onto people. Like, if I really believe in imagining futures, then…well, this would be the time.

:: superzine. Still plugging away, though now with the essay done and the comics completed, all I have to do is lay it out and then do the cover. So I guess it’ll be available by TCAF or something…more next month!
