Welcome to a new episode of inkelinks! This week all the articles are a little longer than usual, but not too long so your coffee goes cold, so grab a mug, pour some coffee and enjoy!

Links

  • But how, exactly, databases use mmap? [8m]
I was always interested in knowing more about mmap and this post gives a great introduction while talking about a real usage examples like in a database.
  • Modules, monoliths, and microservices [14m]
Nice introduction to each type of architecture. It doesn’t go too technical but rather about all the other implications of choosing each type.
  • Make Boring Plans [7m]
Yes, again with being boring, but trust me, it’s a great way to deliver a successfully software project! Also, Camille Fournier is always a win, she’s a great writer and I highly recommend her book The Manager’s Path.

Video of the week

1963 Timesharing: A Solution to Computer Bottlenecks [28m]
As you know, I love knowing more about the history of computing. This video introducing timesharing systems is a great watch, specially to understanding how much (or not) has the industry advanced.
