Happy Friday! My vacation time is about to end, next Monday I’ll resume my work obligations, which means I’ll be behind my computer more often and hopefully I’ll dedicate more time to this newsletter too.

- The difference between note-taking and note-making [5m]
Warning: this is not a technical article! However, I’d argue that programming is what happens when you’re typing on your keyboard, and in that regards, taking notes is very important, and something that I know I could improve. This article does a great work showcasing the different options with the right amount of links to continue expanding your abilities. - Semantic Linefeeds [5m]
It always bothered me that when editing one word in a big paragraph seeing the difference with the previous version could end up being confusing… until I came across this idea, which I certainly going to start using it. As a nice side-note: Brian Kernighan strikes again! 💪 - Stepping up for a truly open source Elasticsearch [4m]
I usually stay away from politics, but in this case, I think it’s necessary. At the beginning of 2021, Elastic decided to change Elasticsearch and Kibana licenses and things got too confusing. The community got angry with Elastic (with reason) and in an unexpected turn of events, I and many others, found ourselves on AWS side. This is sad news, because I really like the ELK stack, but my concerns when Elastic turned into a more commercial company were confirmed.
Video of the week
How Do Computers Remember? [20m]
If you are interested in the very low level details of how a bit is stored in memory, this video is for you. My high-school degree in electronics was very pleased when I watched this… and also wondered why the hell didn’t they teach me this.
On the name of this newsletter
Last week I received a suggestion for a different name for this newsletter, so let’s abuse GitHub discussions and have a poll!
