My stuff's on sale again
After some very kind reviews for "The Scent of Blood," I've found myself sketching out a few more Saintstown stories.
Saintstown isn't intended to be a serial in the same way The Casefile of Jay Moriarty is. It doesn't have a strict linear progression; I have a general idea of where I want things to go, but when and how we get there is something I'm figuring out along the way. My general rule, though, is that every Saintstown story I write should reveal some new, interesting facet of the characters or world.
Anyway, for those here because of "The Scent of Blood": yes, you will see more of Caleb and Faulkner. Eventually.
Read an eBook Week Sale
It is, apparently, Read an eBook Week. Don't ask me who decides these things. I don't know. But Smashwords is having a sale to commemorate the occasion, and some of my books are in it:
- "Jay Moriarty Violates the Official Secrets Act" is available for free (regular price $0.99 USD)
- "Sebastian Moran Gets Mauled by a Tiger" and "Jay Moriarty Ruins Everybody's Childhood" are on sale for $0.99 USD (regular price $1.99 USD)
- Endling: 600 Years from Home is on sale for $0.99 USD (regular price $3.99 USD)
You can find these and my other books on Smashwords here, and sale prices are valid through to March 9.
New on Ko-fi: "Jay Moriarty Ruins Everybody's Childhood," Chapter 5
Chapter 5 of "Jay Moriarty Ruins Everybody's Childhood" is now up for all supporters on Ko-fi. I'm quite proud of the fake Tumblr usernames in this story. Well, they were fake when I wrote it. They might be real blogs by now.
You can also get the entire novelette as an ebook.
Recommendation: "To Haunt and To Hold"
Malcolm and Sam have been together for a long time. Sam knows what Malcolm does when he leaves their shared flat, late at night, returning alone and washing his clothes immediately. It's something worse than an affair.
"To Haunt and To Hold" is a short read — only 5400 words. The main character, Sam, can see ghosts. His partner of 30 years, Malcolm, is a serial killer. The inevitable culmination of these two facts is horrifying and beautiful. This is a delightfully fucked up little story.

RTO doesn’t improve company value, but does make employees miserable: Study
Although CEOs often justified RTO mandates by arguing that returning to the office will improve the company's performance, "Results of our determinant analyses are consistent with managers using RTO mandates to reassert control over employees and blame employees as a scapegoat for bad firm performance," the researchers concluded.
Do Spencer’s Vibrators Have Malware on Them? An Investigation
Reddit user VegetableLuck posted to r/malware that they bought a small vibrator from the mall, plugged it into their computer’s USB port to charge “without any thought,” and claimed that it downloaded a file flagged by their system’s anti-virus protection software as malware.
An open-source search engine. Most notable here is the ability to select an "optic" for your search; if you want to narrow your results down to forum discussions, for example, you can select that optic from a drop-down. It's still early in development, so it's a bit limited, but still an interesting alternative to Google.
As of this weekend, I have officially become a person who can fold a fitted sheet. I always dreamed this day would come.
