Roll For Initiative
Howdy, folks. It’s been a minute.
Before we get into the fun stuff, let’s take care of some business.
If you missed the news in Slack, we have new board leadership in the new year.
Chris Vannoy, a long time member of the community (and usual writer of this newsletter), was elected as Board President.
Katie Hughes, one of our longest serving board members (and Mira Tech 25 honoree recently), was elected as Board Secretary.
We’d like to thank our ongoing Board President, Zach Cardwell, for his work over the last year as we’ve rebooted Indy Hackers and started to make it a durable and lasting hub of our community for years to come.
That out of the way, on to the fun stuff - including a new Indy Hackers event …

New on the Job Board
The IndyHackers job board is free to companies and the community. Our goal is to help as many community members as possible land jobs they love at companies based here in Indiana, growing the community of hackers throughout the state.
If your company is hiring, post your job here.
If you’re hunting for a job, the full job board is here or you can follow along in #jobs in our Slack. Or: Just reply to this email with what you’re looking for.
One last thing
So, hi.
Whew, that was awkward writing that part up top.
I’m deeply honored and humbled to take over as Board President. I’ve remarked lots of times about the extent of my Indy Hackers glassware and t-shirt collection.
But, it’s more than that.
All the folks that have served on this board before me have created this community that has served as a hub for the coders, makers, and individual contributors behind our technology ecosystem here in Indiana.
I was at the Mira Awards last week, and while several Indy Hackers were represented and in attendance, so much of that event celebrates the businesses we serve.
Many of these businesses don’t run without people like us.
The people who make the things that salespeople sell, that customer success supports, and the CEO gives keynotes about.
The members of this community are the engine that drives our technology sector.
My intention as our new Board President is to grow this community - in size, yes, but especially in impact.
How can we lift our other technology communities?
How can we make it easier or better to run a meetup?
How can we support a diverse community in a state that sometimes seems oppositional to that goal?
How can we help those just starting their careers gain the experience and knowledge they need to survive and thrive in a technology space that can feel like it’s replacing them with machines talking to machines?
My goal over the coming year is to make Indy Hackers a powerful, sustainable, and durable force for good for the hackers and makers of our state.
If you have suggestions on how we can best do that, just hit reply.
Or let us know in the community survey that’ll be heading your way in the next few weeks.
Until then, take care of yourselves and each other.
Hack the planet!
Chris Vannoy, Board President (dude, that still feels weird to say)
