It’s the most Hackerful time of the year

Folks gather in a festively-lit space at the 2025 Indy Hackers Holiday Social at Liter House.
A snapshot from our 2024 Holiday social

Call it Holiday creep if you like, but if there’s one thing Indy Hackers has done fairly consistently for more than a decade now, it’s throwing the office holiday party for the folks who don’t go to office parties.

We get together, we nerd out, those who imbibe, imbibe.

For many of us for many years, it might be the only time we get out of the house to socialize until the party rolls around a year later.

Last year’s social went so well that we’re running it back at SoBro’s Liter House again this year on the second Saturday of December.

We’re also bringing back the t-shirt tradition. We have a really awesome design for this year’s attendees and each attendee gets one for free thanks to a generous sponsor.

Go grab your ticket, tell us your t-shirt size (men’s or women’s!), and we’ll see once again when the times turn merry and bright … instead of seasonably spooky.

The IndyHackers job board is free to companies and the community. Our goal is to help as many community members as possible land jobs they love at companies based here in Indiana, growing the community of hackers throughout the state.

If your company is hiring, post your job here.

If you’re hunting for a job, the full job board is here or you can follow along in #jobs in our Slack. Or: Just reply to this email with what you’re looking for.

One Last Thing

We also recently wrapped our annual community survey.

A deeply felt thank you to all those who took the time to fill the survey out.

Our respondents this year leaned very senior - with 70%+ of results being from folks with 10 or more years in the industry. It’s also a group that is working remotely by a large margin - 62%!

Even with that old-head vibe, the primary reasons for being part of the Indy Hackers community were networking, being with people who share interests, career development and support, finding job opportunities and hanging out with friends.

The core of those is people.

Also notable is that the job and career-related reasons all saw significant upticks in popularity from last year.

And if folks deep in their career are showing more interest in career development topics, it’s our theory that new members of our community might feel the pressures of this strange hiring market even more acutely.

Over the summer, we held an event with the folks at Brooksource - one of Indy’s best recruiting and sourcing firms for technical talent.

It felt like that session - a combination of a happy hour and a resume workshop - helped a lot of folks.

When we talk next, we’ll talk about our next event - mock interviews - in late November.

We’re also pondering more regular, informal hang outs - something like Code & Coffee, but for night owls … maybe a late afternoon open office hours or coworking hang out.

Maybe a side hustle afternoon?

More to come …
