We will gather at open, first-come-first-served tables in the main store area. Elf 'N Moon boasts an impressive, free-to-play collection of the latest board games -- and feel free to bring your own favorite tabletop game too.

If you’re hunting for a job, the full job board is here or you can follow along in #jobs in our Slack. Or: Just reply to this email with what you’re looking for.

One Last Thing

We’re particularly stoked about our rooftop event in a few short weeks - the one that we’ve led this newsletter with.

Firstly, it’s rooftop party season here in Indiana, and Brooksource’s spot in Broad Ripple is a great venue for that sort of thing.

Secondly, and more important to our mission here at Indy Hackers, is it’s among our first forays into helping early and mid-career technology folks better launch or manage their careers.

We all know the software engineering hiring market is kind of weird right now, and filled with conflicting signals.

On one hand, our hosts at Brooksource are seeing an uptick in hiring requests from their recruiting clients.

That’s great!

Simultaneously, we’re still in a period where large tech companies are laying off staff - including engineering.

And smaller ones are doing so as well. I had a coffee chat recently with a local engineering leader that saw their company’s founder drop the entire engineering staff to vibe code their way instead.

We’ll see how that works out for them long-term (hint: I have my doubts), but it’s also not an isolated story.

How AI impacts engineer hiring - especially for early career folks! - remains murky.

Add in waves hands at the state of the world, let’s say macro-economic uncertainty, and there are a number of really fantastic software engineers on the market for far longer than they should be in a regular hiring environment.

Events like this we believe can help our friends be better prepared for the upswing that might be coming.

At the very least, the days of blithely stumbling from one job to another - like I’ve been lucky to do for most of my career - are probably over, at least for now.

Learning how to market yourself - how to put your best foot forward - has always mattered.

But in this market, it’s more important than ever.

So, join us in June.

For the summer rooftop, and for your career.

And, as a final note:

If it’s been a struggle, if you’ve been laid off, if it feels like you’ve been told “no” or had promising gigs ghost you over and over again, let me tell you something …

It’s not you. It’s never been you.

You’re not the problem. There’s nothing wrong with you.

As I’ve aged, I’ve realized - and have to constantly remind myself - that so much of life is luck, timing, and circumstance.

Keep trying.

Keep surviving.

Keep at it long enough for things to align for you.

They will.

You got this.

Go get it.
