Some ways to bring sustainability into improv
Hello! We’re Improv Earth – finding light in dark times.
What does it mean “to bring sustainability into improv”? We came up with four different approaches:
1. Under the radar sustainability improv
Don’t promote a sustainability agenda in the team name, description or when asking for a word and so on.
We simply bring sustainability into the scenes through our characters, offers etc.
The audience aren't expecting any sustainability issues to come up but hope find it interesting and thought provoking when it happens.
2. Up front sustainability improv
A team with a clear sustainability theme, eg in its name, in the introductions etc.
We create an expectation in the audience that we'll be addressing sustainability and related themes in the show.
3. Improv show at a sustainability conference
Doing a short improv show at a sustainability related conference, bringing humour and a different perspective.
Scenes might be informed by the topics of the conference or the issues that come up in a Q&A session for example.
4. Improv to engage people at a sustainability workshop
Using improv games to engage and involve people at a sustainability workshop. This could be a really powerful way to get people thinking differently, perhaps about sustainability in their lives or work, or to generate ideas for projects etc.

What do we want to do?
We’re interested in all of these, though we’ll start with the second – up front sustainability improv.
