we're doing it live
upcoming shows in Seattle in December and January, updates on works in progress, and a brief review of the she's buoyant premiere.
hello everyone! i’ve been meaning to get this little mailing list up for a minute, so forgive the harried tone. the clock keeps ticking, ticking, ticking on getting some announcements out. thus, i’m prioritizing those over a cute, bantery message, with lots of thoughtful reflections.
upcoming shows
saturday, december 14, 2024: Base @ equinox studios very open house (6520 5th avenue s., seattle, wa). 6-8pm, free. i’ll be performing a short set alongside others (shayley timm, meredith pellon, samantha fabrikant, dahlia levine, nat robine, nolan klock, and gia falzone). come early and stay late: there will be music, open studios, art displays, demos, food trucks, etc. all over equinox studios.
saturday, january 11, 2025: the chapel performance space (4649 sunnyside avenue n., seattle, wa 98103) with Otolithia and Ruth Davidson. 8pm, $10-20 sliding scale, advance tickets available. relax in ambient immersive layers of shifting textures and tones. bring a pillow, mat, or blanket to make yourself comfortable while listening.
work in development
in preparation for the two shows above, i’ve been working on a new piece called te tractas eam ad Larem. this composition is a love letter to queer domesticity and inside jokes. it’s a fun piece for me with percussion and tape. i can’t wait for you to hear it! i’ve also been continuing with some tape collage/piano improvisation works. i’m hoping to release some of these in short form (digital/cassette?) on Imprecision in the coming months.
she’s buoyant premiere and what’s next
at the end of october, i did a two-show run of she’s buoyant at Base: Experimental Arts + Space in Seattle. these shows were with Jackie An (violin, voice) and Raqa Down (synthesizers) under the direction of Jesse Roth. huge thanks go to Aaron Michael Butler, our lighting and sound tech, and our front of house volunteers, Tamsin, Lars, Al, and Ariel. we had around 50-60 people each night which was a very great turnout.
from here, our next step is to do a studio recording of the piece with a nice grand piano. i’m still not sure what the final released version will look like - maybe a CD/record? maybe a DVD with the visuals? who knows. i’d also like to get a few shows on the road of this piece eventually down the west coast and in a few key cities like Chicago, DC, and metro New York.
in addition, i’ll be putting scores and posters for sale on Bandcamp before too long. these were riso-printed by Paper Press Punch in Georgetown and available as merch at the shows. they’re beautiful, and both limited, in editions of 100 and 50 respectively.
please stay in touch!
if you saw the show, or liked the music, i’d love to hear from you. please shoot me an email! i’m always looking to chat with new potential collaborators, too.
xoxo,
maría
