Bytes, Rhymes, Life #5: Low End(ian) Theory
You’ve probably noticed that the title of my newsletter has changed. It’s now called “Bytes, Rhymes, Life” because I’m a pretty big fan of A Tribe Called Quest. With that explanation out of the way, here’s a few things I found interesting over the last few weeks.
Software / Technology
API Versioning by Stripe
It’s no secret that Stripe has one of the best SaaS products in the tech industry. They seriously move mad money. One thing I’ve always found impressive is their API Versioning technique, in which they go into thorough detail explaining in this post.
Prometheus – Metrics & Monitoring
When it comes to observability, logging only takes you so far in debugging things. Not all logs are structured, for example, and additionally, it’s hard to make sense of unstructured logs. Prometheus takes this to the next level, allowing users to collect metrics and graph them and also alert to services like Slack and Pagerduty based on set thresholds.
Design
Interface Font Family
A font for highly legible text on computer screens, designed by Rasmus Andersson. Best part, it’s free to use. I found this to be a really high quality typeface and look forward to using it in the future!
My Writing
On Temporality
As I discussed in my previous newsletter, temporality is something that’s been on my mind recently. I finally took the time to flesh out my thoughts on the subject in a blog post.
On Friendtorship
People always talk about mentorship being good for growth, but I take a different approach in analyzing friendtorship. I believe friends make better mentors than just any random person, given the emotional investment that comes with friendship.
That’s all for this edition, until next time y’all. I would love to hear your feedback on the newsletter, I’m only a tweet away or an email away. Also, pour one out for Solaris OS, rest in peace.
