We're hosting two workshops next week, based on suggestions from our current Meta Course cohort.

One's about syllabus writing; the other is about designing more flexible and async-friendly learning experiences.

All are welcome to attend. Both events are free, just require RSVP.

The Language of the Syllabus

Let's talk about writing a syllabus (or whatever you want to call it!) — a public description for your course or club.

A syllabus is a powerful document. It can be not only a practical summary and reference for participants, but a beacon, a manifesto, and a marketing document. Jesse Ball's writing attests to this.

There's a lot of information you might include in a syllabus, and many ways to organize it. There's also a lot to think about around the language you use, both for big things like titles and headlines, and all the little ways that words shape the overall tone and feel.

Join us to workshop the language around a course or club idea you're working on. Bring something specific to share (title, outline, phrasing, whatever you'd like to work on) and we'll go over it together.

Designing Flexible Cohorts

Thursday 9/16, 8-9pm ET

How can we create and facilitate meaningful asynchronous learning experiences?

How can we build strong cohorts that give participants flexibility in how and when they engage?

There are many challenges in designing an engaging cohort, and even more when you want to design for flexibility, for participants to work and collaborate on their own schedule, rather than just in live calls. You need different mechanisms for accountability; different constraints and ways of supporting learners.

In this workshop, join us to jam on ideas for creating group learning experiences that add flexibility without sacrificing collaboration and community.

We'll think about ways to structure self-guided or more flexible / async-focused learning on Hyperlink, brainstorm specific activities and mechanisms for such courses / clubs, and consider things we might build in Hyperspace to better support this kind of learning.

Hyperspace

We've had a great time running the current Meta Course in Hyperspace, and we're continuing to add new features and figure out our future roadmap. We've also been plugging along on some behind the scenes work supporting overall stability and performance.

A couple fun things we recently added, related to live calls:

• video cursors, so you can see everyone in a call, and tell who's talking
• a "summon" button, to gather everyone together on a page with you

We're working on a few more things right now and look forward to sharing a more detailed update once we've got em ready.
