This Skittish Frenchman
Even from the headline and subhead from this Buzzfeed story alone, there’s so many things to ask about with this particular story.
Before we go on, just know that “ejected himself” is in no way a euphemism about the events that happened on there, otherwise there probably wouldn’t be a government report dedicated to the events of March 20, 2019. Right away the story almost kills you with the revelation that The Ejected Man had both never flown nor ever expressed a desire to fly before being gifted this experience by his employees, to ride along in a military jet exercise. After finding out the experience was to take place the same afternoon, I blacked out and had to catch up with the rest of the piece later, but just know that it is relentless in how ill-advised everything is about this situation.
Watch This: THE LAUNDROMAT and HIGH-FLYING BIRD - both available on Netflix - While the two films don’t really have much in common besides their director, the extremely productive Steven Soderbergh (OCEANS 11-13, THE INFORMANT! and probably three more films during this lockdown), that’s all the through-line I need to highlight them both. Lost, or at least not properly celebrated amidst the never-ending flood of Netflix Content, these films were both released last year on the service; the former about the events surrounding the release of the Panama Papers, over 11 million documents detailing the measures being taken by the rich to hoard their wealth in offshore shell companies, the latter a story about a sports agent who attempts to leverage an NBA lockout to challenge the power dynamics between the league and its players. While everything Soderbergh does is interesting at the very least, these two highlight his versatility careening between subject matter, and his ambitious filmmaking methods (HIGH-FLYING BIRD was filmed using an iPhone 8!). As a side note, another Soderbergh production worth checking out is the Bolivian brandy he imports as another side venture.
I don’t think this quote was ever featured on any behind-the-scenes featurettes I’ve seen:
While only Mrs. Incredible comes to mind, I’ll take his word for it, please do not send me any pictures of Pixar Mom Butts. Listen I’m not under any delusions that there’s a bumper crop of sexy Pixar images available but I’d like to pace out my exposure to them.
In additional Events Inside Animal Crossing news, the Monterey Bay Aquarium teamed up with Chicago’s Field Museum to give players a tour of the museum inside the game. Find the video of the event here and an interview with the organizers here.
Since it’s been one bullet point without any butt news, here’s a brief on Disney’s censoring of Darryl Hannah’s rear in its Disney+ presentation of SPLASH, which is strange, yet very on brand. The method in which they chose to do it however, by basically using the CATS fur tech to extend her hair over the butt leaves a bit to be desired in execution. Just give it a peek.
I’ve been seeing pictures of major cities like Los Angeles and Delhi with suddenly smogless skies, but seeing this really drove home for me the environmental impact of everyone staying indoors.
If you enjoyed the Dogleg music recommendation from the first couple issues, you may be interested to know that Vancouver’s finest punk concern Pup has released a song written during quarantine, and the band in general is broadly worth a listen, as their two most recent releases, The Dream is Over and Morbid Stuff, are absolute scorchers.
