Huge Sunday Vote
With reports out that Monday (when voting is finally available in all 159 counties) is on pace to set a record, it’s worth looking at just how good Sunday was in the limited counties that offered voting.
Based on my dumb model, Warnock finished the day with a +113k lead (on only 181k total votes, meaning I project him at around 81% of all votes cast so far). That will surely come down to earth, as will the 46% black share of the electorate so far and the +45% D-R edge of early voters.
However, it is worth pointing out again that based on the counties voting and how they finished early voting last time, you’d only expect the electorate to be 37% black and +22% D-R. So there are some early signs of enthusiasm.
We’ll find out after Monday’s numbers whether it’s really just Democrats who show up on the weekend or whether they are also showing up today as well but just anecdotally I’m hearing reports of long lines in Democratic and Republican areas.
I will probably wait to vote until election day but they need to do something to streamline the in-person absentee request process which mostly seems to be the culprit in creating long lines.
