It’s Bandcamp Friday

That has nothing to do with this email, but I’ve been getting a lot of those reminders, so I figure it’s important.

Anyway. It’s been 10 months since I’ve written (as Buttondown so helpfully highlighted). Largely because… what do I have to write about? I’ve spent most of this past year flailing in frustration as the industry I invested my adulthood into disintegrates itself at the feet of charlatans and malice. And while I did manage to get a bit of a bag before being kicked to the curb, that can only last so long. Still no clue where I’m landing from here.

It’s now been a year since Vapormage dropped. It hasn’t done particularly well, but then, I’ve not been good at promoting it. Never been good at self-promotion, frankly, so hardly a surprise. I have put it on discount for the whole month ($2 ebook), but getting anyone to notice is a different story.

I have been doing things, at least. I took a screenwriting class, and with some folks I met doing that, made a short film:

I’ve been crew for another short film as well, though that was a more substantial effort than a 48-hour film project, so nothing to actually show on that front. (I was asked to not even name it, since the name’s likely to change.)

Similar story with writing. I had hoped that I could say in this email “also I’ve now written a feature film” but like… I’m not quite there yet. It’s close, but it’s not done. (It’s about vtubers. It’s a drama.) And sure, a screenplay doesn’t mean a movie will get made, but it’s something.

I am trying, I swear. I’m just not succeeding.
