Vapormage Drops 10/02: Cover Reveal

Vapormage-user-preview.png

I had hoped to send this email months ago. Literal months. If you're on my Discord, you've seen me venting about my hunt for a cover artist. Folks have ghosted, folks have had life come up. And, the whole time I've had bouts of anxiety around the whole thing. What did I actually want the cover to look like?

Well, I finally got to work with someone who was reliable and affordable enough. And he was able to put up with my flailing of "I don't know what I want, but I know what I don't want". And he gave enough plausible confidence that it's not just AI output because fuck that.

And so, here we are. When the artist first showed me the mockup for this, my thought was "if I was on a publisher and they said this was the art they were going with, I wouldn't be pushing back". For having no idea ahead of time what I wanted, I think that's a great place to land.

The plan is for the book to go fully live on October 2nd. Because: that's my birthday, and we're so far outside of giving a crap about industry conventions or hype cycles or whatever that who cares, it's my birthday present to myself this year.

I will be updating the website soon as well, unifying the branding and adding more in-universe information. It’s always that fine balance of telling enough to interest people, but not so much as to give away the whole thing.

Once I have more info on where and how you can pre-order the book, I'll send that newsletter. (It’s looking like materials have to be fully finalized for that to happen, which is later than I thought.) In the interim, I just want to thank anyone who's actually reading to this point. I’ve put nearly 6 years of my life into this project, it’s kinda all I have going on right now, and it's very easy to feel like nobody gives a crap and none of it is worth doing. Thanks for proving otherwise.
