A Newsletter of Humorous Writing #261
A Newsletter of Humorous Writing
A Newsletter of Humorous Writing
For November 2-8, 2022.
Hello and welcome to A Newsletter of Humorous Writing, a roundup of the week's finest short humor pieces and funny articles, and a celebration of the fantastic writers who wrote them. If anyone wants some weirdly-shaped fruit, drop by Humorous Readings Headquarters (HRHQ)! We've got more than we can eat and it's all starting to go bad. We'll explain what the deal is later on in the newsletter--just hurry over here and take some fruit off our hands!
What We Enjoyed This Week
Content Warning by Jesse Eisenberg (The New Yorker) "Theatrical content warnings" is such a fun, original format for a piece. It's a nice indirect way to dole out details about, and paint a picture of, what's going on with this weird, bad production. The Edible Arrangement Endures by Abby Carney (Eater) How does Edible Arrangements stay in business, anyway? This article sets out to answer this pressing question and has a lot of fun with the subject along the way. We also recommend checking out The Onion's take on the matter: "Continued Existence Of Edible Arrangements Disproves Central Tenets Of Capitalism".
Insane Clown Posse Song or IPA Beer? by Kat Thek (The Belladonna) It's truly impressive and hilarious how similar some of these song names and beer names are. ("Dank Candy Sticky Lollipop Dream" and "Cotton Candy & Popsicles", for example.) And if you still haven't gotten your fill of Edible Arrangements humor, the author of this piece is coincidentally also the creator of the project Inedible Arrangements.
An Old Favorite
This week's Old Favorite pick and writeup come from Anne. Thanks for writing in, Anne!
Halloween Candies and the People Who Hand Them Out by Jason Garramone (Points in Case) Anne writes, "I love how all of the classic candies are represented and the window we get into who is handing them out. It's a funny and creative look into what your candy offering says about you."Do you have an Old Favorite of your own? Let us know by filling out this form and we may run your pick in a future edition of the newsletter.
Updates From Your Hosts and Friends of the Show
Nothing from us this week! As you've probably already guessed: While putting together this week's edition, all the talk of Edible Arrangements made us really hungry, so we put in a huge order, way too much, and it's taken up so much time trying to eat our way through these arrangements, we haven't been able to get anything else done.YOUR AD HERE!
