đź”™ Throwback Thursday for 2024-12-05
I’m reflecting on two years of Google NotebookLM and its impressive AI updates.

🙏 And a big thanks to all our sponsors! 🙏
(Scroll to the end…)
In a very special Thankful Throwback Thursday, we consider the ancient times of… [checks notes] two years ago when Google launched NotebookLM.

Techmeme: Google launches NotebookLM, an “AI-first notebook” demoed at I/O 2023, available in early access since July 2023, and now powered by Gemini Pro, in the US (Abner Li/9to5Google)

A lot can happen at Google in two years. This is especially true in the world of AI. So, a few months ago, I even tried recent updates to Google NotebookLM. (pretty cool stuff!)
Testing Google NotebookLM in 2024
There is some great explainer style content appearing on short form video showing folks how to use the synthesized conversational RAG summarized playback of research papers using "Google Illuminate" which is the latest extension on Google NotebookLM. Reading vs.
And… it’s probably not shocking that there is some nostalgia in looking back while the Google NotebookLM team undergoes their own updates exactly two years later.

Techmeme: Three of Google's NotebookLM team members, lead Raiza Martin, a designer, and an engineer, are leaving to launch a startup focused on “a user-first AI product” (Charles Rollet/TechCrunch)
