Hollywood Hotline - Week of March 7, 2024

HOLLYWOOD HOTLINE Archives

Howdy Hotliners,

I didn’t win my Oscar pool (they’re gonna break my thumbs!). I totally bet wrong on THE BRUTALIST winning every category that ANORA won. People and pundits seem to believe that the win was on artistic terms, when in actuality, ANORA was the only film to send out physical DVD screeners to every member of the DGA, PGA, SAG, WGA guilds. I got my hands on one of the screeners and made it an hour and ten minutes in before it turned into THE HANGOVER (2009) and I tuned out then off.

TOP STORY:

Werner Herzog has confirmed he is working on an animated feature adaptation of his 2021 novel The Twilight World about real-life Japanese solider Hiroo Onoda who refused to surrender for some 30 years after the end of WW2.

Sounds epic.

Without further ado, let’s check the Hotline:

TRENDY TV:

30 ROCK Team Reunion Show, HUZZAH!

"NBC has given a pilot order to an untitled single-camera comedy headlined and executive produced by Tracy Morgan. It reunites the former 30 ROCK star with the Emmy-winning series’ co-showrunners Tina Fey & Robert Carlockand writer Sam Means. All four also share Saturday Night Live background. Written by Carlock and Means, the new comedy stars Morgan as a disgraced former football player who is on a mission to rehabilitate his image.”

Love 30 ROCK (2006-2013) so will probably love this!

Rachel Weisz Getting Her Glass of Milk Babygril Game On

“In VLADIMIR, written by Jonas and Robin, as a woman’s (Weisz) life unravels, she becomes obsessed with her captivating new colleague. Full of sexy secrets and dark humor, the series is about what happens when a woman goes hell-bent to turn her fantasies into reality.”

Sounds hot.

Jon Faverau Goes Full Soulless and Feeds Us Piggies More Disney IP Slop

“The animation/live action hybrid is about OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT, a saucy, self-absorbed bunny. Favreau is writing and producing the project from Walt Disney Studios. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is very important to the Walt Disney Co. The cartoon, which bears close resemblance to Mickey Mouse, has a fractured history with the company and played a pivotal role in the creation of Disney’s most famous animated character. Oswald was created in 1927 by Walt Disney and featured in 27 animated shorts. But after Universal took control of the character in 1928, Disney created a new character as a replacement: Mickey Mouse.”

Disney giving the fans what they want. And by fans I mean your relatives buried in the cemetery.
