Howdy Hotliners!
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (2024) is about to open this weekend and break box office records even though it looks like Superbowl commercial but I’m interested in this ODDITY (2024), which is playing at my local Burbank AMC 16.
Without further ado, let’s check the hotline:
BLUE RUIN (2013) and GREEN ROOM (2015) Director Jeremy Saulnier is Back, Baby!
“REBEL RIDGE follows Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre), who enters the town of Shelby Springs on a simple but urgent mission — post bail for his cousin and save him from imminent danger. But when Terry’s life’s savings is unjustly seized by law-enforcement, he’s forced to go head-to-head with local police chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson) and his combat-ready officers. Terry finds an unlikely ally in court clerk Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb) and the two become ensnared in a deep-rooted conspiracy within the remote township. As the stakes turn deadly, Terry must call upon his mysterious background to break the department’s hold on the community, bring justice to his own family — and protect Summer in the process.”
You may remember back in June 2021, actor John Boyega abruptly quit the Aaron Pierre role “for family reasons” thus leaving the film and its filmmakers in the lurch/limbo. Honestly amazed Netflix saw this through to the end and just didn’t pull the plug.
A24 and Zac Efron Making Movie Sounds Similar to BOWFINGER (1999)
“The film will star Efron in dual roles, playing both overzealous fan, Lance Dunkquist, and Hollywood heartthrob, James Jansen. The film is based on the acclaimed novel by New York Times-bestselling author Blake Crouch.
The story follows Dunkquist, who has one asset that’s about to change his life – he has the face of a movie star. And not just any movie star – Lance is the spitting image of a Hollywood icon, James Jansen. Lance is about to travel to Los Angeles to make his dream come true. Lance is going to be famous, no matter what it takes.”
So BOWFINGER or no BOWFINGER?
Veteran Director Michael Mann Making Veteran Remake
“VETERAN (2015) has some similarities with HEAT (1995) in that it features an intransigent cop hero and scenes of mano-a-mano bravado. But the antagonist is not so much a professional criminal as a corporate princeling who abuses his wealth and privilege.”
Mann’s a man’s man making movies for manly man men
Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence in Lynne Ramsey Joint
“Set in a remote forgotten rural area, the story follows a mother who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis. It is unknown who Pattinson would play.” Martin Scorsese producing.
Sounds hilarious! Would love to see Michael Bay tackle subject matter like this and direct a film at this scale. Speaking of. . .
Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen
Michael Bay and the former President of Paramount production, Adam Goodman are making a movie about a severed talking head that pops out of a toilet like a genie from a bottle. They’re building an entire cinematic universe franchise out of it.
Why not make a movie about that wall mounted singing bass first? [checks notes]: “Big Mouth Billy Bass.” You can get John Goodman to play him!
I STILL Know What You Did Behind the Shed Last Summer!
“THR previously reported that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. were in talks to reprise their roles from the initial movie.”
Not a huge fan of this franchise or legacy sequels or the IP Wars. This sounds more like a CW show than theatrical film.
Nicole Kidman in Erotic Thriller With Hansel, I mean Harris Dickinson
“An erotic thriller about a successful CEO who begins an illicit affair with her much younger intern.”
Hawt. Give it to me in my veins.
The Bruin is closing but the Village is getting saved by Jason Reitman and 35 other filmmakers who are buying it together. Can’t say I’m surprised since the parking over there S U C K S
