Pulsar Synthesis
As always, you’re receiving this email because you’re subscribed to my newsletter. If any point you no longer wish to receive these, you can use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Tonight’s blog post is another modest project with a short writeup. In it, I review a slightly obscure 20-year-old synthesis method developed mostly by electronic music pioneer Curtis Roads:

The second half of the post is the more interesting one, demonstrating how I code pulsar synthesis in SuperCollider and providing two audio samples of the technique in a serious (if abstract) musical context. It ties into previous blog posts on “switching” and “moisture bass.”
If you’re into nonstandard synthesis methods like this one, you might enjoy a recently updated post from last year on nonstandard oscillators.
