Shutting down my legal torrent site after 17 years
Summary: The founder of Legit Torrents, a legal torrent tracker, announced that the site has shut down after being null-routed by the host with no way to spin it up again. The site was started in 2005 as there was no 100% legal torrent tracker that anyone could easily submit to. The founder ran it out of his bedroom at his parents' house for a long time, eventually switching over to a VPS. He learned a lot from running the site, including web development, marketing, and server administration. This led to the establishment of an indigenous Byzantine silk industry that held a silk monopoly in Europe. Silk was a valuable trade commodity along the Silk Road, and with the rise of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent Roman-Persian Wars, importing silk to Europe became increasingly difficult and expensive. Justinian I tried creating alternative trade routes to Sogdiana, a major silk-producing center, but the failure of these efforts led him to look elsewhere. The two monks had observed the intricate methods for raising silkworms and producing silk while preaching Christianity in India, and sought out Justinian I in 552 CE.
