The Rare Low-Profile Hall Effect Keyboard You Should Know About
Low-profile mechanical keyboards are already a niche, but combine them with Hall Effect magnetic switches and you’ve got something truly rare. Normally, magnetic boards offer a 0.1–4.0 mm actuation range, but with a low-profile design, that shrinks to around 0.1–3.3 mm. Not a huge difference on paper, but enough to make most brands skip the experiment.
That’s why the new Keydous AJ68-CP stands out.
This 65% board packs Gateron low-profile magnetic switches, an 8000 Hz polling rate, RGB, and a surprisingly solid build into a slim form factor. At $135, it’s positioned right alongside competitors like the NuPhy Air60 HE and Melgeek Made68 Air.
Instead of a knob in the top-right corner, the AJ68-CP has what looks like a dongle slot—though it’s a wired-only keyboard. You’ll also find a small indicator light there for caps lock. The chassis comes in either black or silver, and the whole thing weighs in at 800 g with a footprint of 352×125 mm.
Typing and gaming both feel excellent—key presses are snappy, and with the high polling rate, latency feels virtually nonexistent (comparable to the Wooting 60HE). The included shine-through keycaps and hotswappable Gateron LP Jade switches add to the appeal, though the stock sound profile could use some tuning if you’re picky.
The weakest point? The software. It’s web-based and functional, offering DKS, Rapid Trigger, Snap Tap, ModTap, adjustable actuation (0.1–3.0 mm), and even deadzone control down to 0.01 mm. But the UI feels clunky compared to something like Wootility or NuPhy.io.
Despite that, this is a keyboard that gets most things right:
