I’m a little late today because I’m fresh off a bachelorette weekend and am thus also running behind on most of my shows. Could I have watched them on my plane rides? Yes, but instead I watched High School Frenemy again.
Perfect 10 Liners: This week’s episode had me in pieces. I just love the Yotha and Gun dynamic so much, it’s truly for me in a way that the previous arc wasn’t. This turning into a bet about overcoming fears wasn’t what I expected (I can’t remember if it was in the trailer) but I’m loving it. I also really loved Arm in this episode, especially in the entire scene where he just watched Yotha lie his way into being Gun’s buddy. He could have blown up his spot, but instead he let young love fly. Beautiful.
Your Sky: I mentioned last week that Domundi’s real strength has always been the chemistry between their actors, which is true, but it’s also that their actors aren’t afraid to kiss nasty. I saw Thomas’s tongue so much in this episode. Kong’s mouth was visibly swollen from how much Thomas was kissing him. The verisimilitude cannot be beat.
I’m excited to get further into the Real and Hia storyline next week now that most of the Muenfah and Teerak issues have concluded (with the exception of telling Teerak’s parents). Their absolutely bananas size difference thanks to Save being tiny has me in fits every time.
ThamePo: I was on the fence last week about if they were actually going to push Jun as a second male lead, but they are and it’s absolutely hysterical. The musical sting in the first scene had me cracking up, and the way the dynamic between Po and Jun progresses is just so fun. I was saying that in another life, maybe Jun’s pigtail pulling might have worked on Po, but Po doesn’t want to be Jun’s mean wife, he wants to be sweet and gooey with Thame. It’s okay, Jun, I believe in you. You’ll find another bitchy bottom to tease.
One thing I really enjoy about this show is how a lot of Po’s strengths come from his life experience. He’s able to figure out what’s going on with Nano because of his own struggles, and his emotional intelligence seems to come in part from his own soul-searching after his relationship ended. It adds a nice layer to the theme of this week’s episode that it’s okay to fail sometimes.
I feel like I could talk about every episode of this show for ages. I love Thame’s genuine confusion about his own feelings, which is understandable given what we know about how he’s spent the last few years, and how sweet and genuine his joy is when he realizes that he does actually like Po. Getting a glimpse into Po’s anxiety issues, symbolized by how he hesitates at crosswalks. Lego’s performance as Nano! Why isn’t it Friday yet??
The Secret of Us: I’m just about done with this, and while it is a little overwrought and angsty for my tastes at time, I do love the ensemble and their interactions. Unfortunately I’m very compelled by the gay male b couple (although calling them that is something of a stretch since they have like 3 scenes total)—what do you mean Fahlada’s best friend falls for the guy she’s supposed to marry? What do you mean Wisanu has literally never once given his own desires any consideration and is now put in a situation where he has something he wants?
I think for me part of what I want more of for the women is for Earn to have something else outside of the relationship. She nominally has her career, but we don’t really know that much about her goals with that. It isn’t necessary, but it’s something I’d like to see more of.
I’m really worried they’re going to try to reconcile Fahlada and her mother by the end of this. We’re clearly supposed to be feeling some kind of sympathy for that woman, but frankly I want her dead in a ditch after everything she’s done. While announcing Fahlada and Wisanu’s engagement in a (public?) interview was a power move of all power moves, I don’t like her for it or for how consistently she has trampled on Fahlada. Get a grip! I’m really glad Fahlada realized that she could just hit da bricks.
Anyway, one more episode left, which I know from tumblr involves a wedding. Absolutely stoked to see what nonsense everyone gets up to.
Trailer dropped for Pond Ponlawit’s new show Reset, which had one of the most bonkers lines of dialogue I’ve ever heard. It looks completely deranged and lowkey like what I wanted My Stand-In to be, so I’m thrilled, especially because I love Pond so much and can’t wait to see him playing a needy bottom again.
Trailer for Love Like a Bike by P’Golf also dropped. It does not look particularly good, but it does look like lightly campy romcom vibes, which I tend to enjoy. I am always concerned by shows with more than two major couples, so we’ll see how they balance it out.
IdolFactory also released the trailers for their upcoming slate of shows and god bless ‘em but they do not make good trailers. The best one was probably the BeckyFreen trailer—the others were a little too confusing imo.
My Sweetheart Jom—absolute RIP to the person I saw when this was first announced who kept saying “Stop saying SaintPoom! It’s PoomSaint!” Saint is DONE playing a bottom. This was the longest trailer of the four and yet the one where I felt like I had the least concept of what the show is actually about. It’ll probably be camp and funny, but I have no idea what’s going to happen.
Somewhere Somehow—I already love that there is more butch styling for one of the girls in this show. This is another one where I’m not entirely sure what it’s going to be about since they pull a fake-out halfway through after showing a bunch of over-the-top dramatic scenes (which felt like it was poking gentle fun at both IF’s own GAP and the other GLs). I’m ready for a school romcom, especially about a loser yet popular jock who keeps being unable to confess. That’s charming as hell.
Interminable—The only reason I was able to parse this trailer at all is that I’ve read a summary of the novel it’s based on. BillyBabe doing another reincarnation show…this is their genre maybe. At the time of watching I was like huh this is over the top about the female villain scene but thinking back on the historical lakorns I’ve seen bits of, it feels very in line with that. I’m curious how it’ll play with international audiences, but I also know Saint is really interested in promoting Thai culture specifically, so maybe he doesn’t care. I’m hoping they get a better wig for Babe or just straight-up let him grow out his hair, though, because good gravy it looked bad.
Cranium—For whatever reason, despite liking Becky and Freen in Secret Crush on You, their projects have never sparked my interest, but this has them both in excellent non-high-femme styling and also playing exes who are solving a mystery. And it also has supernatural elements? The CGI looked wretched, but that’s just how it be for a TV budget. This ended up being the show I’m most excited for, despite my love for BillyBabe—let’s get into the genre game with GLs too.
