Hi-Q: the peony
the peony
with blooming begins to
slowly expire
here’s my problem with the 5-7-5 rule for English haiku:
how do you account for different pronunciation’s of a word?
is “peony” one or two syllables?
is “expire” two or three syllables?
is “kyle” one or two syllables?”
even this “rule” seems open to personal customization via accent, pronunciation, language, and region.
i’d be interested in knowing how many syllables those examples have for you.
