The Weekly Pride Signal
July 7, 2026 — Your digest of trans community news, resilience, and hope
A Note from the Editor
Hello, lovelies.
This week has brought heavy news, and we know the weight of it settles differently on each of us. Before we dive in, take a breath. You are here. You are loved. And you are part of a community that has never, not once, stopped fighting for each other.
Scotland: A Beacon of Progress
While Westminster wavers, Scotland continues to lead. The Scottish Government has reaffirmed its commitment to trans-inclusive healthcare, with NHS Scotland maintaining access to gender-affirming care without the unnecessary barriers being introduced south of the border. Campaigners north of the border are watching the NHS England changes closely, and early indications suggest Scotland will not follow suit.
This is what solidarity looks like. When one part of the UK steps backward, another holds the line. We see you, Scotland. Thank you.
Westminster's Latest: What You Need to Know
This week, the Department of Health and Social Care confirmed that adult trans patients in England will now need a formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria before accessing certain treatments. The British Medical Association has called for urgent talks, and trans advocacy groups are preparing legal challenges.
Let's be clear: This is not about safety or standards. This is about delay. Gender identity clinics are already stretched to breaking point — waiting lists stretch years, not months. This policy adds a gatekeeping step that harms the most vulnerable among us.
The Good Law Project and other legal organisations are already mobilising. If you can, consider supporting their work. Every challenge matters.
Resilience in the Face of the EHRC
You may have seen that the Equality and Human Rights Commission's new Draft Code of Practice continues to face widespread opposition. In a powerful show of solidarity, 139 MPs have signed an Early Day Motion against it. Organisations like the Centre for Mental Health have spoken out.
This is not a done deal. The more we speak, the harder it becomes for them to ignore us.
Community Spotlight: Grassroots Power
Pride Month may have passed, but the energy hasn't faded. The Colours of the Gate fanzine continues to raise funds for Mermaids UK and the Transgender Law Center. Small acts, huge impact.
And remember: the UK trade union movement stands firmly with trans people, even when the Labour leadership does not. If you're in a union, get involved. If you're not, consider joining one. Solidarity is our strongest tool.
Looking Ahead
Consultant strikes in England may disrupt NHS services, including some gender-affirming care. If you have appointments, check ahead. And be kind to yourselves — this system was not built for us, but we survive in it anyway.
You Are Not Alone
Whatever this week has brought you, know this: You are part of a community that has faced down far worse and emerged, bruised but unbeaten, on the other side.
Keep showing up. Keep looking out for each other. And rest when you need to — rest is resistance too.
With love and hope, The Weekly Pride Signal team
