Monthly Roundup: July 2025
What I Read
-
This was interesting not because it brought a different perspective or helped us to understand patrons of prostitutes. It was because I learned that someone praising another to the highest of heavens doesn't mean that what they say about that person is true. It's true to them, but not necessarily the same for the rest of the general population. If you really want to read something from the same author, read this article about crossdressing comedians instead. It's a better use of your time.
Get Your Email Under Control With Inbox Zero
I haven't tried this out yet, but it's an interesting read for anyone who'd like to have their email inbox free of the thousands of emails waiting to be read (a.k.a. me).
What I Played
-
This game is about a person stumbling onto a game dev's computer and having to help them build their game and deploy it. It was fun using the command line, although the commands differ from an actual UNIX system's; for example, instead of typing
ls
to list the contents of a directory, you'd typelisteroni
instead (did I mention that the commands are pasta-themed?). Some features in an actual command line are also present e.g. pressing tab to autocomplete and pressing the up-arrow key cycles through previous commands.Still haven't finished it because I accidentally ended the game before deploying the game, but I'm definitely going to replay it when I'm in the right headspace for it.
10/10🌠, would definitely replay.
PS: Now that I think about it, would it be more fun to type
listeroni
instead ofls
in real life? It might, but it would also be too long of a command.
What I Listened To
- California Dreamin', José Feliciano
I've never heard of Clipse before this month (but I know Pusha T, don't eat me!), but their new album, Let God Sort Em Out, was wonderful. My favourites: The Birds Don't Sing, So Be It, Chains and Whips, P.O.V, F.I.C.O.
- Their Tiny Desk performance was great. Definitely going to revisit it a lot. NPR should really consider releasing albums of Tiny Desk performances.
I have finally listened to all Eidola albums in existence. To Speak, To Listen is still my favourite, being the first I ever listened to and the home of Sri Vishnu Yantra, but Mend and The Great Glass Elephant are fighting for second place.
Standouts from each album- The Great Glass Elephant: Yahrzeit Homily, Pugna E Eterna, Bastards Fire
- Degeneraterra: De Coelesti Hierarchia, Omni: The First Temple, Contra: The Second Temple, Omega: The Third Temple, Humble Ledgers (Gnostic States)
- To Speak, To Listen: Sri Vishnu Yantra, Loti, Querents, The Abstract of a Planet In Resolve, Tetelestai
- The Architect: Counterfeit Shrines
- Eviscerate: Kali Yuga, No Weapon Formed Shall Prosper, Golgotha Compendium: Fifth Temple
- Mend: Prodigy, Empire Of Light
Other Stuff I'd Like to Share
- A recommendation: Snake Eater, from the Metal Gear Solid 3 soundtrack. Someone said it would be a good Bond soundtrack, and I fully agree.
- Discovered the benefits of adding a
Compose
key to my keyboard layout. I'd been looking for a way to type the em-dash (—
) without memorizing the codes for the symbols. Then I found this forum post as well as this article explaining the process, and now I have a Compose key of my own (it's the Right Alt key). Now I can type all the em-dashes I want. - Found an Instagram frontend: imginn.com.
- Some good news: Knives Out 3, or Wake Up Dead Man will be out on the 12th of December 2025. I can't wait! (adds it to the ever-lengthening list of shows and movies to watch after my three-week exams)
- Wrote my penultimate tests in medical school. One more next month, and then it's time for finals. Pray for me.
