π¨ Computer Vision and Embroidery
Hi!
There's a limited set of embroidery colors. I spent the weekend building a program that tries to identify which thread colors are used in images of embroidery hoops.
I learned a ton about computer vision and OpenCV. Read my project notes in my blog post β Computer Vision and Embroidery.
Moving Apartments
Yesterday, we moved apartments to have more room for our young son. My desk overlooks some overgrown train tracks and a row of houses. The other side of the apartment faces a park.
We're been trying to combine our personal/work setups. Between Madeline and I, we have eight screens. Two each for work and personal. We have a separate "office room" and, right now, there are screens and monitor arms all over the floor in a state of disarray. It's busy. We've already made some trade-offs. I chose the window-facing section of our long shared desk and gave Madeline the shelf.
TIL
Some things that surprised me this week.
-
The βReβ we use in subject lines for email replies is a latin phrase abbreviated from βin reβ (βin the matter ofβ). (There's even an RFC).

In the browser, you can listen to whether a media query resolves to true or false. (Code sample).
Raspberry Pi Baby Monitor
Aka my current project. Our apartment used to be small enough that we could hear our son from any other room. Now that the kitchen is way down the hall, I've been looking into hooking up one of my Pis/Pi Cameras to watch and listen to my boy. I have a small 7inch screen that could go in the kitchen to display the feed. Family projects are the most fun projects!
I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers,
Andrew
