End-of-Year Update

A look back at 2024, and a sneak peek of 2025.

It’s the final hours of 2024 here in the US—and in classic fashion, I wanted to share some updates, reflect on the past year, give a glimpse of what’s ahead in 2025. 🥂

Let’s start with the important stuff:

📣 Production Updates

After wrangling the logistics that typically follow a group buy, mass production for the Theseus75 is underway and is currently on track to be completed by end of Q1 2025. Specifically:

  • Hot-swap PCBs and FR4 plates have been completed and QC’d.

  • Initial batch of solder PCBs were completed, but discovered a minor LED issue on the left half during QC; revised units are already in production.

  • All silicone parts (more than 16,000!) and PORON gaskets have been completed.

  • Carrying cases, magnets, and all CNC parts (3,524 to be exact) are all in production.

2024 Highlights

🎉 Theseus75 Group Buy (finally!)

After nearly two years and countless prototypes, the Theseus75 Group Buy finally ran, exceeding expectations and tripling the minimum order quantity. (Seriously: I’m still in disbelief.) 🥹

With six live detailed reviews from creators like Taeha and Alexotos, witnessing the overwhelmingly positive reactions from the community in real-time was both deeply gratifying and incredibly humbling. I am genuinely grateful to them and for how well the project was received.

🤝 Meetups

Of the many facets to this hobby, I’ve found the social aspect to be one of the most rewarding. Finally putting so many faces to names (and @handles) this year felt like reconnecting with old friends while making new ones at the same time.

TexMechs Keyboard Roundup

This April, I had the opportunity to attend one of the most inclusive and engaging meetups I’ve experienced: the TexMechs Keyboard Roundup. Huge thanks to @captain.sterling and the many others who organized it!

The Keyboard Meetup

Another stellar event with an incredible line-up, courtesy of NovelKeys. Finally meeting fellow designers like Tim Van Damme (a.k.a. @maxvoltar/@mvkb) and Oratio West (a.k.a. @oh.type) made for a great time. Plus, my favorite meetup swag? A surprise sample of home-brewed, 3D-printed Haverworks keycaps gifted by a Discord member! 🙌

⌨️ Builds

Lastly, I figured I’d share a few of my favorite personal builds from this year. Stepping into this side of the hobby has made me realize the importance of staying grounded to what brought me joy in the first place: the zen of assembling something intricate.

2025 Horizon

Though it’s a bit early to spill all the details, I can share that more than one new board in the works for 2025. 😏 Though as tempting as it’s been to tinker with them, I’m keeping my focus on fulfilling the Theseus75 before diving back into design mode. Once that wraps up, expect to see sneak peeks for these projects in the coming months!

🧹 Housekeeping

To improve transparency, I’ll be exploring public project trackers in Notion so that anyone can check project statuses in detail at any time. Once the haver.works site launches (I swear, I’ve rewritten it four times now), these updates will also be archived and viewable there.

Thank you all for your love and support this year. Here’s to an exciting 2025! 🥂

Cheers,
Alex

“Wait, where was last month’s update?”

If you mainly follow updates through this newsletter, you might have noticed it’s been a while since the last one. Since wrapping up the Theseus75 Group Buy, I’ve held back on sending emails to avoid cluttering inboxes and creating too much noise, reserving this newsletter for major announcements instead. However, since then many of you have said you'd prefer monthly updates alongside other channels like Discord.

To make this work for everyone, I am exploring a more nuanced setup for this newsletter where you can choose the topics you’re interested in—once it’s ready, I’ll share how to update your preferences in a future email. In the meantime, feel free to reach out any thoughts or suggestions!
