Balmoral - Shooting the Sh**
Hello dear friends and readers,
For the last 6 months I’ve been shooting the ship.
I’m at work on a new short film currently called ‘Balmoral’ also the name of the ship - original, right? Anyway, for a few years I’ve been wanting to do a project in Black & White and after walking past the Balmoral, moored in the Bristol harbour. I saw a few people quietly working away on the ship and my curiosity about its story was piqued.

After finding some contact details I reached out through email and instagram. To my shock, on that very same day as I was walking home around the Bristol harbour, the ship had vanished.
Had I said something wrong? Did I upset her?
I thought ships weren’t meant to be sensitive…
As it turns out, the ship was tired of being stagnant and instead made perhaps her shortest ever voyage, a few hundred meters downstream to the Dry Dock at Bristol Marina; an iconic part of Bristol’s historic harbour.
The purpose? She was ready for a long overdue pamper.
The Dry Dock workers were the Fab Five and she was a woman who gave it all but wasn’t taking good enough care of herself. The nominators? A small group of dedicated volunteers who care about their friend deeply…

As 2024 ended, I also began to wrap up principal photography with this small team involved in trying to save Balmoral from the scrap heap. A familiar story for many of her friends.
I’ve began the slow process of sorting through and editing the material which will take most of winter. Something about editing in this season feels right…
I’m looking forward to sharing this film in cinemas around the UK and of course with all of you. More updates to come on this in the near future. Until then…
Happy New Year,
Harry x
