FLOODING EFFECTS IN KENYA

There has been a lot of rain during the previous two weeks of April, which has caused severe flooding around the nation. Homes have been wrecked, roads have turned into waterways, and sewers and rivers have overflowed.

Homes have been literally immersed in water

More than 200,000 people have been displaced, property, infrastructure, and livelihoods have been devastated nationwide, and socioeconomic vulnerabilities have been made worse by the floods, which have also claimed at least 170 lives.

Travel has been severely hampered by flooded roads, making it challenging for patients to get to our facilities. In addition to causing devastation across the nation, the floods also presented additional difficulties for healthcare facilities, particularly in communities with little resources like our own.

Impassable roads

The situation on the ground is appalling; homes are flooded, and families have lost nearly everything. The filthy floodwater, which is a mixture of sewage and trash, has damaged items such as schoolbooks, shoes, uniforms, and beds.

Individuals who have been severely impacted by the flooding are in urgent need of support, including food, clothing, bedding, mattresses, and school materials. These are households in Mathare, Kibera, Viwandani, and Mukuru. As the Happy Life Mission, we have partnered with Overcoming Faith Church to help the residents in Mathare. We were able to support them by giving out food, clothing and some school supplies. This brought so much relief and hope to them.
