NEW JESSE KAY HOSPITAL PROJECT
During our six year journey of providing healthcare to our growing
communities, we have become increasingly aware that there are still so
many low to middle-level income households that don’t have easy access to
quality and affordable care. This is not just in our Roysambu area but the
greater Nairobi and by extension the whole country. There is a vibrant and
rapidly expanding population in Kenya that lack the resources to access
proper and timely diagnosis and treatment. In Kasarani itself there is a
dense population and growing number of households with children, young
adults and even the elderly who may not afford to seek treatment in the well
equipped facilities within the city. The nearby healthcare facilities are not
just overcrowded; they are also unable to offer specialised and critical care.
Most residents in Kasarani have therefore suffered due to long waiting
time, overcrowded facilities, lack of proper patient follow up, etc. leading to
high morbidity and mortality rates.
The construction of the new Jesse Kay Hospital in Mirema is not just timely
— its establishment here is essential! While our current facility at the
Roysambu Center has helped us serve the community, we have maximised
the space we have, and yet there is still demand for more space to offer the
kind of quality care we desire for our patients.
Once the new hospital is completed we will be able to provide sufficient
space for accident and emergency care, general outpatient services, to
include consultation, antenatal care, child wellness clinics, comprehensive
care clinics, optical and dental care and much more. We will also have
bigger capacity for inpatient care to include the ever-growing maternity
department, surgical, medical wards as well as paediatric wards. We will
also be able to establish specialised clinics - ENT, orthopedics, obstetrics
and gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, physiotherapy, neurology and
oncology, among others. Our hope is that in the future we can expand our
diagnostics department to include MRI, CT-Scan, Echo-cardiogram in
addition to the current X-ray, ultrasound and ECG equipment that we have.
We also hope to have a specialised laboratory that is missing in the whole
Kasarani area forcing us to frequently seek the services of reference labs in
the city. Considering the space in the new facility we are excited that we
will be able to expand our services to include specialised surgical rooms to
help us provide colonoscopy, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgeries, neural and
advanced orthopedic surgeries as well as critical care (NICU, HDU and
ICU).
Once the new facility is complete we intend to use our current hospital at
Roysambu for Dialysis, which is in demand and yet no facility around us
offers it. We will also have space for training of Nurse Assistants and much
more, as well as accommodation for the volunteer groups that come to
Happy Life and Jesse Kay Hospital.
Our mission with this new branch is to bring healthcare closer to the people
and make it affordable and excellent. We are not merely building a hospital;
we are creating a lifeline for the residents of Nairobi and beyond, ensuring
that families can access quality care right at their doorstep. Our focus on
early diagnosis and treatment means that conditions like pneumonia,
which have claimed lives due to delays in care, can now be diagnosed and
treated swiftly.
But beyond healthcare, this project represents economic empowerment for
the community. By creating jobs for construction workers, health
professionals, suppliers, and various other roles, we are helping to uplift
families and strengthen the local economy. Jesse Kay Hospital is not just
about health; it’s about hope, dignity, and a better quality of life for
everyone in this area. We foresee the facility becoming a practical training
ground for other Health Science colleges.
Together, we are making Kenya healthier, stronger, and more resilient. We
look forward to bridging the gap in the healthcare needs of our
community, something which has become the hallmark of Jesse Kay
Hospital.
Sincerely,
Peter Ndungu & Jesse Kay Team
