OCT 2025 - Curse of the HAMpire!

Hello there! This month’s newsletter is coming a little later than usual. During the first week of the month, which is when I usually send these things out, something happened and it didn’t seem like the right time. However, I do have a couple of things I need to share about the upcoming weeks!
But most importantly - BOO! I love Halloween and I hope you have a great one!
Here are the headlines:
Conventions for 2025
Super Mario Moment Season 2
Travelling Man Tour
Booklist Comic
And the other thing…
CONVENTIONS FOR 2025

Due to what happened earlier this month, I am being a little more lowkey about my two convention appearances left for 2025. I am still attending them, but I have been given heightened security and I won’t be posting about them as much.
However, if you are attending MCM London Comic Con on October 24th, 25th and 26th, I will be available in the Artist’s Alley at Table R-20. I hope to see all you lovely people there, and I will have lots of merch and this will be Go-Man’s first convention appearance! Sadly, stocks for the book are kind of low in the UK, so if you are desperate for a signed copy, I’d recommend buying it before and bringing it, or coming to me early as you can on the day.
If I am hassled or threatening in the slightest, you will be banned from all future conventions by the organisers.
In addition, I am aware of the controversy surrounding ReedPop’s parent company at the moment, with some accusing them of selling data to places like I.C.E. I am a guest for this MCM and so I am not giving them any money, and from what I researched the link between going to this show and your data being sold is tenuous and no worse then scrolling through any META-owned app. But the debate is ongoing and I will be looking more into this before applying to future shows. Please look into this issue if you have concerns and make your own decision on whether attending is right for you.
I will also be attending Thought Bubble in Harrogate on November 15th and 16 and will be giving further details in my November newsletter.
Finally, I am not sure what my future of doing US events will be. My publisher advised against them for my safety but we shall see. I am going to at least apply to TCAF for next year.
SUPER MARIO MOMENT SEASON 2
My Mario podcast Super Mario Moment is coming back for its second season, one week from today on October 20th. You can watch the entire first season over on the youtube channel below or listen wherever you get your audio podcasts.
Our first episode back will be all about Universal Studio’s Super Nintendo World.

TRAVELLING MAN TOUR
Just a quick thank you to everyone who came to my Travelling Man tour! It was so nice to finally see this book in people’s hands, especially kids who I know will really connect with it!
Special thank you to Gemma at the York branch who always pulls out the stops with the displays! https://www.instagram.com/cosmogembettyincolour

BOOKLIST COMIC
I contributed a comic to Booklist’s Guide to Graphic Novels in Libraries issue! It’s a textless comic all about the influence comics had on me, as a dyslexic kid who couldn’t always communicate my ideas properly.

The full issue can be read online here!
AND THE OTHER THING…
Of course the elephant in the room is that Elon Musk launched a boycott of Netflix after seeing a clip from Dead End: Paranormal Park posted by Libs of TikTok. He also called me a groomer and sent his millions of followers my way. Over the next week, I received death threats, stalking and many requests for interviews from everyone from Fox News to Pink News. I turned them all down and have chosen not to speak on the subject because I honestly still don’t see the point. I feel no need to defend myself or the show against those kinds of people, whose opinions I do not respect.
Everything I have to say on the subject is in the tv show or books themselves. Trans people have always existed and they always will and no amount of moral panicking will change that. Queer kids exist because I was one. I will continue to tell these stories because they are my story too.
And I have received so many more messages of support than negativity. Thank you so much for all your well wishes and thoughts. It’s meant the world. While I can brush it off and even laugh at it now, the week this kicked off was truly awful and the effects what those people did to me will colour a lot of my future career. And so receiving reassurance from so many people that they had my back meant the world. I really appreciate you all.
Bit of an odd newsletter this month, but I wanted to send something to make sure you all know I’m ok.
Love you!
-Hamish
