Familiarity Breeds Contempt (AI Edition)Turns out, making AI inescapable is not the same as making it beloved. New data shows consumer wariness of AI is growing despite — or perhaps because of — its ubiquity. Silicon Valley assumed that once people used these tools enough, resistance would dissolve. A reasonable theory, also held by everyone who's ever served an acquired taste and watched guests politely hide it in a napkin. Widespread adoption, it seems, is not a personality. Source: TechCrunch
Your Mac Now Has a ChaperoneMeta has launched a dedicated Mac app for its AI chatbot — one that can watch your screen and offer suggestions in real time. Which is either tremendously useful or the digital equivalent of someone reading over your shoulder at a café and occasionally whispering advice. Meta frames this as helpful context-awareness. Users may frame it differently. The app is free, which is the part where you remember that if something costs nothing, the arrangement is probably more interesting than it appears. Source: The Verge
Stripe's Singularity Story Didn't Quite Hold UpStripe acquired OpenRouter — a startup that routes your prompts to whichever AI model handles them best — and initially explained the move by referencing "the singularity," which is either visionary positioning or the most expensive way to avoid saying "we want routing infrastructure." TechCrunch suggests the real motivation is rather more terrestrial: control over how AI transactions flow through payment systems. Billing for AI by the token, at scale, is an extraordinarily good business. The singularity can wait. Source: TechCrunch
Nvidia Invents a New Thing to OwnNvidia, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock have joined forces to package GPU computing power as an investable asset class — meaning you can now, in some sense, own a slice of raw AI processing capacity the way you might own a bond. Whether this is financial innovation or elaborate GPU timeshare is a fair question. What's certain is that Nvidia has now successfully sold chips, then sold the concept of chips, and is apparently working its way up to selling the philosophical implications of chips. Alexa+ Arrives on Your TV, Whether You Invited It or NotAmazon is rolling out Alexa+, its upgraded AI assistant, to all compatible Fire TV devices in the US — automatically, and without requiring a Prime subscription. The "automatically" is doing considerable work in that sentence. No action needed, no opt-in required; Alexa+ will simply appear, improved and eager. Amazon calls this expanding access. Existing Alexa users, who have watched the assistant mishear commands for years with cheerful consistency, may be cautiously optimistic that "plus" means something. Source: TechCrunch
The future of AI remains bright. Consumer enthusiasm for the future of AI remains pending.
