For the past three years I have helped organize a three-day basket weaving retreat in Sherwood Park near Edmonton.
Last year, we welcomed more than 90 people!

Friday, March 6
Catalan Base Shopper
This basket uses the same type of base I use for my backpacks. Because the side weaving begins on the bottom, you end up with a very strong basket, even as a beginner.
I am limiting the size of the workshop to 6 participants so that I can offer two options for the weaving on the sides a French rand or a zigzag weave. The one pictured on the website has a triple French Rand with some creative spacing. You can see an example of the zigzag weave on this backpack here:
This basket is beginner friendly, but you will learn many new techniques. It is a full day of working both your mind and body, so come well rested and ready to learn.
Saturday, March 7
Cattail Berry Basket
I am joining my friend Kate Mullin to teach this workshop. Cattails are wonderfully soft to work with, and we use many of the same weaves in this basket as we do with willow, so it gives you an opportunity to practise the rhythms of weaving while giving your hands a break. If this will be your first weekend of weaving, this is an excellent workshop to start with.

Textured Willow Bowl
Last year I taught this bowl for the first time at Weaving Connections. I originally thought it would be too difficult for new weavers, so I listed it as an intermediate project. It turns out this bowl is very well suited to beginners. Because we repeat the same weave throughout, people are able to settle into the rhythm of the work. It has become my favourite workshop to teach new weavers.
