What To Do with AI Anxiety

Thinking about AI differently, finding a little of humor in protest, and turning money into love through art.

How are you feeling about AI at the moment?

I’m firmly in the NO camp when it comes to artificial intelligence, but I also get that people are going to use it. Which is why I wrote this non-judgmental “Why no AI?” manifesto.

I’m hoping it’ll inspire everyone to learn more about this tech. Because, though it seems counterintuitive, when you know more about AI, you’re far more thoughtful about how you use it. This video shows the making of the beautiful portrait above and also talks about why demystifying AI makes it less appealing.

In other news…

  • NO to kings (or kingzzz). I made a travel-size poster to march in Manhattan last month.

  • YES to showing you the full process for painting a portrait. You can watch everything from photographing my friend Joe all the way to the finished artwork.

  • YES PLEASE to turning money into love. It’s a special alchemy I’ve talked about a lot over the years. I finally made a succinct video describing how art transforms currency into caring and human understanding.

  • YES INDEED to my three favorite books of the last month: The Anthropologists by Aysegül Savas, Memory Piece by Lisa Ko, and Bad Bad Girl by Gish Jen.

Join the Sticker Club!

If you get in before the end of April, you’ll receive this little print of an artwork about emotional dysregulation in May and other bits of pretty for as long as you like.

It’s $10 a month and that money is the HELL YES that every artist craves.

Take care,

Gwenn
