What I’m hearing from Twitter employees; It looks like roughly 75% of the remaining 3,700ish Twitter employees have not opted to stay after the “hardcore” email.
Even though the deadline has passed, everyone still has access to their systems.

Sad news from @unccs — Fred P. Brooks, the founder and long-time chair of the department (and a major influence on my professional outlook) passed away a few hours ago.
@SteveBellovin @unccs From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Broo… about Fred Brooks: "The most important single decision I ever made was to change the IBM 360 series from a 6-bit byte to an 8-bit byte, thereby enabling the use of lowercase letters. That change propagated everywhere." May his memory be a blessing.
@DanB @unccs I heard him say that! But there was more to it. Going to 8-bit bytes implied 32-bit words—what would the missing 4 bits do to floating point precision? It took a *lot* of measurement, simulation, and analysis to conclude that things would still work well.

Of all the big social media behemoths, Twitter was the only one that truly inherited 2000s forum culture. So it’s only appropriate that it should die by the admin being incredibly divorced, having a personal meltdown, and pulling the plug on the servers for financial reasons.

By way of an interesting form of code obfuscation and frequent, semi-randomized game updates, Ubisoft's (apparent) strategy for thwarting cheat-makers seems to be working.

I would pay Tyson vs. Holyfield pay-per-view prices for a livestream of these guys, Sacks, Solana and PG trying to figure out how to fix a Twitter backend storage service on 50,000 machines across three data centers.
