Using AI to manipulate the image/voice of a person in realtime and smooth over imperfections is years old at this point. It’s on Instagram and TikTok and all manner of mobile apps.
It is inevitable that the technology will be used for “benign” political purposes, if it isn’t already. Politics is frequently about appearance, i.e. the performance of Presidential is critical, so the value proposition will be too compelling to refuse.
AI as performance enhancing technology for video appearances.

@HalvarFlake@mastodon.social FWIW, the arguments that resonate with me are that: 1) LLMs seem to be really strongly bound by training data - so barring some yet-unknown leap, I'd bet that there is an "internet know-it-all" plateau, vs systems that invent new paradigms and leave us in the dust. 2) A superhuman brain-in-a-jar is still bound by the same constraints as we are, minus the evolved adaptations of biological life. Intelligence alone is probably less important than we think. Mosquitoes ...
