It seems that OpenAI's Whisper was trained on unofficial subtitles of Arabic movies, and a big problem there is that the Arab culture doesn't care about content quality that much and considers everything an opportunity to advertise and / or soapbox - leading to a weird issue

The culture's indifference to quality and content integrity leads to cases where the AI has learned to associate certain sounds with words that have no resemblance - for example, the fanfare music for most publishers is translated to "subscribe in the channel"

Using AI with no cultural background of the dataset used to train it is recipe for disaster. Google "Translated by Nancy Qanqar" in Arabic and see how common it is:

the quality of unofficial subtitles varies wildly between Arabic and English. Have you run across English unofficial subtitles where the translator inserted their own religious opinion instead of what the character said?
