Another Season Comes to a Close...Welcome Spring!
By Farmer Kalina
Well folks, we did it. We made it through the winter season of the CSA. In the last ten weeks we have seen a bounty of winter veggies, watched the farm go through an intense winter storm, and now we see the beginnings of spring. Ten weeks ago, many of our winter crops were just beginning to grow in size. We harvested hundreds of broccoli and cauliflower and countless bunches of greens. We expanded our wholesale network, finished the csa despite the odds after the storm, and were even able to donate over 300lbs of produce to the Bastrop Emergency Food Pantry. It has been a big and successful season!
Now with many of our big winter crops gone after the storm, the rows at our farm are a blanket of tiny beautiful veggie starts that are sure to explode in growth in the warm days of early spring. We will be taking a short two week break, to give these crops a chance to grow, before resuming the CSA for the spring season. The spring CSA will host the last of the winter crops, some broccoli and cabbage that weathered the freeze. We will see lots of greens, including kale, collards, mizuna, arugula, spinach, lettuce, and more. Our root crops are thriving and new successions will be coming over the next couple of months. We will even be sure to see our first tomatoes and summer crops towards the end of the season. The sign ups for the Spring CSA are still live. Don’t dally, the spaces are filling up fast!

Recipes From Kalina:
- Orecchiette Pasta with Broccoli Sauce - This is one of my favorite broccoli recipes. It’s simple, delicious, and satisfying!
- 5-Minute Sauteed Spinach with Lemon and Garlic - There’s nothing fancy about this recipe. It’s simple and yummy. And to be honest, it’s how I usually cook my spinach after a busy day in the field!
- Roasted Spiced Carrot Dip! - Get creative with your carrots this week and try this roasted spiced carrot dip!
