Happy Thursday!!

My day is being made by watching folks take Leana Wen to task about her COVID-19 ‘return-to-normal’ BS.

Anyone: Masks are a pretty basic thing. Dr. Leana Wen: But where do you draw the line? Anyone: Masks? Wen: Where does it stop? The complete dissolution of civilization? Anyone: You just put em on your face like this. Wen: So never see your family again? https://t.co/LKEPIBs9QU

Leana Wen, M.D. @DrLeanaWen
@denise_dewald With due respect, why stop at required masking? If your goal is to reduce covid19 to as low levels as possible, why not also stop indoor dining, travel, social gatherings, etc, until all your requirements are met? You are drawing the line somewhere—others draw it elsewhere.

@DrLeanaWen Did we go back to pre cholera normal? No, we washed our hands and invented indoor plumbing. Why is everyone so obsessed with *normal*?

There are some real wins happening though.

Indiana’s Republican Governor Just Refused to Sign an Anti-Trans Sports Bill by James Factora

Utah governor becomes latest to veto transgender sports ban by the Associated Press

Cox and his folks did the math, and there are literally 4 trans kids playing sports out of 85,000 kids in Utah. Here’s what he had to say about that:

“Four kids who are just trying to find some friends and feel like they are a part of something. Four kids trying to get through each day. Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I don’t understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do. But I want them to live.”

Note that Cox also thinks somehow doing ‘nothing’ about trans kids in sports is problematic and harmful to women. I’ll still take a half-win from Utah of all places.

Anyway, support trans folks:

#TransDayOfVisibility is coming up next week, and if you’re cis, I’d like you to start thinking now about which trans folks you are going to donate to. Start with Black transfem folks, who have it the hardest of any of us by far. ⬇️
