Jude: Contending for the Faith
As we prepare to dig in to our study of Jude, there are a couple of questions that will help us remember why such a study is important for us here in 2021.
Jude urges his readers to “contend” for something he describes as “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” What was he describing there? Of the following choices, choose the one that BEST describes what Jude meant by “the faith:”
- The Gospel
- The Old Testament
- The New Testament
- The whole Bible
- The Apostles’ Teaching
- All of the Above
- None of the Above
- Something else
Jude doesn’t get into many specifics of the false teaching he was facing, focusing rather on the lifestyles of the false teachers (Christ said you will know them by their fruit! See Matthew 7:15-20). But the principle of “contending” applies to ANY false doctrine. What are some examples of false doctrine that are leading many astray in our day? Write down your answers.
“The great business of the saints is to defend, if necessary with their lives, the faith once delivered to them. We are put in trust with the gospel. We are trustees of a divine deposit of invaluable truth, and we must be true to our trust at all costs.”
~ Spurgeon
See you Sunday, as we work to become contenders!
