GLCB Men's Small Group Bible Study | Biblical Manhood-Lies Men Believe | Week 2
Good afternoon, men! We pray the Lord is blessing you this day. He certainly blessed us this past Sunday evening as we met together for our first study session on Biblical manhood. The study was edifying, and the fellowship was sweet. We look forward to what He will do in our midst this next Sunday and in the days and weeks to come!
Below please find some portions of the coming lesson, to help us “prime” our hearts and minds for this week’s lesson and discussion. Prayerfully read over this, and jot some notes you can share with us when we meet.
Until the nets are full,
Chris & Tommy
THINKING RIGHTLY ABOUT GOD
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” – A. W. Tozer
Having a right understanding about God will inform all of a man’s questions, concerns, pains, and joys.
LIE #1 GOD IS NOT A WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT FROM ME.
• This is perhaps the most heinous of all lies. The first and most important truth a man can learn is that there is one true God, and it’s not him.
Read: Isaiah 6:1-5 & Psalm 46:10
LIE #2 GOD ISN’T ACTUALLY INVOLVED IN OR CONCERNED WITH THE DETAILS OF MY LIFE.
• This lie is whispered into the minds of men almost daily by Satan. He knows that if he can make a man think that God is only interested in him when he’s in church or attentive to him when he cries out in prayer, he has won a great battle in the heart of that man.
Read: Psalm 139:7
LIE #3 I CAN EARN GOD’S FAVOR.
• Just like the other lies that deal with God, this one is extremely common as well.
Read: Matthew 5:20, John 3:3, and John 14:6
LIE #4 THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO GOD.
• All a man has to do is look around the world he lives in to see and realize that men everywhere are seeking to find God in a multitude of ways.
Read: John 14:6
LIE #5 CHURCH? I CAN TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.
- Some years ago, this lie began to catch on with those who didn’t want to have to live under the “authorities” of the church.
Read: Hebrews 10:24-25 & Ephesians 25-27
Final Thoughts to consider before we meet:
- Whatever lies we as men are tempted to believe, “Lies about God” are the most damning and by far, the most dangerous.
- They destroy the truth about every other area of our existence.
