GLCB | Men's Bible Study | Biblical Manhood: Lies Men Believe | Week 3
Men,
I pray you have been challenged to know God more and better! To know Him more is to love Him more...to trust Him more...to worship Him better.
Below are some snippets from our upcoming Week 3 meeting outline. I pray you'll find or make time this week to review these points and ponder them so that you can share with us when we gather together this coming Sunday.
Lie #1 - I'm Not Responsible for My Actions This lie exposes our own inclination to believe in the "victim mentality" rather than the truth of scripture, and it's really easy to believe this lie.
Lie #2 - Pleasure and Entertainment can Satisfy Me This lie exposes us in our desperate pursuit of finding that person, place, or thing that will meet our desires and bring satisfaction. It's like chasing the wind: it's a pursuit that will never be fulfilled.
Lie #3 - I'm the Master of My Own Destiny The appeal of money and power can be a formidable temptation for men. We think that having money can give us what we want, and that having power will protect the money. Therefore, we may think that having this duo can give us ALL that we want, and make us the masters of our own destinies.
Lie #4 - Real Men Don't Cry Worldly ideas of masculinity have created a stereotype that is devoid of men who love justice, do kindness, and walk humbly before their God (Micah 6:8).
Lie #5 - I Don't Need Close Male Friends There are many pitfalls hidden within this lie, and the main one is that you can trust yourself. Your being a loner makes your life all about you, and you have no other man to speak truth to you (your wife has no idea what it's like to be a man).
Those are the next five lies we'll confront together - we are all subject to be tripped up by them to one degree or another, at one time or another, and at one frequency or another. As you prayerfully consider each one before Sunday, ask the Lord to reveal to you the ways in which you may have believed each of them.
Pssst - here's a hint at the rebuttal to Lie #5: We do need each other, and discussions such as the ones we've shared so far, and will have this week and in the weeks to come, prove the benefits of the fellowship of Christian men, at least in part!
See you Sunday! Come ready to be edified and to edify one another.
