Lesson Title: Snake in my Garden
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4
In what way did the first male-female relationship put God on display? Why do you think Satan wanted to destroy God’s design?
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ Genesis 3:1-3
In verse 1, what’s the first thing you learn about the serpent?
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:6
What 3 things about the tree made it alluring to the Eve? Think about Eve easily responding to Satan, Describe a situation where you were tempted to view sin as harmless, attractive, and promising.
But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:9-13
Do you think Adam and Eve were genuinely sorry for their sin? Explain why or why not.
Can you think of a time when someone you thought was on your side turned on you? Describe how you felt.
What is the problem with having an “I’ll do it my way” attitude? What ideas about God does this type of attitude reveal?
Pray and ask the Lord to help you take personal responsibility for your choices, to acknowledge where you have chosen your way rather than His.
List some subtle lies about womanhood that Satan commonly tells women. Are you guilty of listening, dwelling, believing, and or acting on any of these lies? Do you blame circumstances or people for your poor choices?
